Did a day shoot in Bristol yesterday and got to a lot of the city, seeing it from lots of different angles. This image above is probably the pick of the bunch as when I got to the Avon Gorge the sun was just starting to set, I looked through the images and thought why don't I take out the urbanisation in this one. If you zoom in you'll realise it is done quite poorly and it was a rushed photoshop job at best. But, it does give you a picture of what it would have looked like a couple hundred years ago. A wild landscape. Even with the road its a good picture, the light falling across the landscape made pretty much everything look great yesterday but take a way the road and the houses and the industrial buildings at Avonmouth in the distance, and you get a pristine environment of sorts.
Now today before writing and posting this I watched 'Before the Flood' the National Geographic documentary with Leonardo DiCaprio, and it was amazing and quite moving. To see that some people are in denial about the climate change is astonishing. This image just made me think, what if the world had never developed and it had stayed as it was in the edited image. Yes it would be a harsher and harder life but in the long term the benefits of industrialisation will end and we have to either come to terms with that inevitability or find alternatives. My goal in life is to document the change to the environment and climate.
